January 9: Zero for one on major industry events in 2023

Published on January 9, 2023
Yup, I spent the last month hyping CES and then was a no show. Fact of the matter is, I didn't want CES '23 to be "the-CES-Beeler-got-everyone-sick". Maybe next year. Unfortunately that meant I missed my own panel! Fortunately Scott Messer stepped in. I'm going to try to get a recap from the amazing panel so y'all know what went down. I'm 0 for 1, but I assure you that I'll be at the TD Foundation Gala later this week. I'm even thinking about wearing a new jacket...

The panel was focused on automation, a pretty big topic for this coming year for our industry. I know it's going to be a main topic at Base Camp Newport Beach. Details a comin', but I can share that one of our keynotes is a futurist focused on the impacts of automation.

Automation comes up in a few articles just published on our site. Here's something we're trying to do in the new year: we're going to add some context and editorial to some of our newsletter features and post them on the site. The newsletter is already too big, so we're going to more on the site:

This approach will help us highlight our community members, our partners and people doing great things in our industry. Care to contribute? Drop us a line!

Base Camp

Help set the agenda for Base Camp in Newport Beach, California, February 26 - March 1. We have some amazing keynotes we're about to announce and this year you’ll also hear from buy-side industry leaders to discuss how to work better together. The rest of the program will be peer-led roundtable discussions. Throughout the conference, you’ll have opportunities to unwind at the spa and enjoy offsite activities like deep sea fishing, whale watching, and painting with a purpose.

Heading up to Base Camp, we have prep calls about the sessions. It means we can maximize the time we spend in person on the most important topics. Base Camp is invitation only and we know some of you are still considering attending.  Your input will help us fine-tune the agenda so that you can get the most out of the conference. Each call will take place at 3 p.m. ET.

  • January 10: Direct Sold Track (we walk through the agenda for those with direct-sold businesses)
  • January 12: Programmatic Track (event agenda from a programmatic perspective)
  • January 17: Regulation (determine focus of this session)
  • January 19: Data Strategy Mapping (outlining the best approach)
  • January 31: In-App (focus for the onsite in-app session)
  • February 2: CTV (focus for the onsite CTV session)
  • February 14: Brand Safety (focus for the onsite brand safety session)

Note: these sessions are reserved for publishers and our partners and we might reject your registration. However, these sessions will lead to more open discussions, so knowing a topic is of interest to you helps us program everything else.

Pubs, if you plan to attend, be sure to request your pass today.

We’re building out our What You Need to Be Reading guide with the goal of organizing the industry trades we as leaders can turn to for news. It's very early days on our new site, so your input is welcome and appreciated, so check out the current list and please share anything we’ve missed!
