Do I have #ProtectDirect Wrong?

Last fall, I started to preach #ProtectDirect. We had shirts made up. We built a one-day event focused solely on protecting our direct-sold businesses. I started working out further discussions on the topic which I shared with some publishers this week.

Some of them (not all) weren’t having it.

The fact is, if you have a big enough, strong enough direct-sold business, you are looking for growth. You do that through efficiency. You do that by offering new services. You move the conversation away from the trials and tribulations we debate daily.

These pubs want to go on offense, not defense. As we head into Base Camp, I think that will be the recurring theme. We reframe the conversation. People want content. We create content. Advertisers want to reach those people. We can serve both our customers and win.

My only question for you is: what’s the hashtag for that?
